RCJ Machado instructor weekend
Hi Everyone. Just got back from Dallas, Texas where I attended the most recent RCJ Machado instructor meeting. Carlos Machado never fails to amaze me with his master skills in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and his extreme humbleness. I feel really lucky to be able to train directly under him after so many years since I was last able to do so.
Just a quick blurb on the weekend…
Jiu Jitsu was awesome. We got about 11 hours on the mat. Carlos shares in a “no holds barred” way for his affiliate instructors. So although I can’t get into too much details he stressed the need to teach our curriculum in logical sequences vs. doing a random technique. So that theme was used durign the weekend where we followed a BJJ tree…escape mount, pass grd, get stuck in 1/2 grd…pass 1/2 grd, etc. Other themes that we drilled were around using the pressure game (ie; Rigan game) and using elbows and knees as your hands while playing a pressure game. Kneerides were in force!
Traveling sucked. I arrived on time a day early but got stuck at the DFW airport for 7.5 hours due to plane delays on my way home. Luckily I got stuck at the bar watching the first USA vs. Canada game of the 2010 Olympics.
So glad to be home and able to get on the mat w/ my students to share what I learned and to refine/practice. Until next time. Train safe. Where do we train? Giroux BJJ in Glastonbury, CT…a unique BJJ academy for central connecticut. Learn self-defense, Brazilian Jiu Jitus, and get in great shape.
