MDSC makes a visit to Glastonbury

Leglocks

My good friends Chris and Zack from Modern Self Defense in Middletown made a visit last Wed.  Chris taugh an great class on leg locks.  The focus was on variations of the straight foot lock and achilles lock.  I have known Chris for a few years and can attest to his high level skills as a technician and instructor.  So I was psyched to have him in as a guest teacher.  He holds a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Roy Harris.

One of my favorite aspects of the class was attention to ‘control positions’ which are really what makes the leg attack successful.  Your opponent will not just give you the tap so the controlling aspect is crucial to riding the fight to get the leg lock. And  also to note…success is important because when your opponent escapes a leg attack you are often in a inferior position.  We don’t like that!

As a follow up to last week I continued training leg attacks and defenses.  I added in some extra ways to catch the foot lock from open guard sweeps, a low ankle shoot takedown, and escaping mount.  And mainly for my more advanced students I taught kneebar and heel hook with various ways to find those attacks from a failed double under guard pass, 1/2 guard (top), rolling from turtle position, and open guard sweeps.

Want to get in on the fun?  Come on down and try out Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Glastonbury.  We are the only Connecticut Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy affiliated w/ RCJ Machado Jiu Jitsu.  But more importantly this school is made up of really great students.  Guys that are going to help you get really good at BJJ.  The only catch is that you need to come and train to help them as well.  Get in the best shape of your life and learn self defense skills.  Call and ask as many questions as you like…no secrets here.  Then come and watch and/or take our free 2 week trial.  By then you will probably be hooked and join up.  Don’t wait…give a call. 860.633.1466.
